James “Midge” Ure was born in Cambuslang, Lanarkshire in Scotland in October 1953 and has had a distinguished career in the music industry. His musical career started with the band Salvation in 1972 but his most notable achievement was as the lead singer for Ultravox. Before Ultravox, he appeared in a number of other bands including Thin Lizzy, Visage, The Rich Kids and Slik during the 1970’s and 1980’s. The name “Midge” derives from a phonetic reversal of his common first name “Jim”.

As lead singer in Ultravox from 1979 to 1985, Ure fronted many concerts and produced a number of best selling albums including Vienna, The Anvil, Quartet and Lament. He eventually decided to go solo and released his own album in 1985 although he also produced the sixth and final Ultravox album ‘U-Vox’ in 1986.

Ure became involved with Bob Geldof in 1984 and was instrumental in organising the Band Aid concert in 1984 in response to the Ethiopian famine broadcasts by Michael Buerk seen on television. As well as organising the event he co-wrote and produced the best selling single “Do they know its Christmas?”

With further involvement in the Live Aid concert the following year, Ure has maintained a deep and committed involvement in raising public awareness through the use of musicians and concerts. Both concerts raised over £8m with the single selling over 1.4 million copies in the first two weeks after release. He also co-organised the Live 8 charity concert in 1995 aimed at bringing world poverty to the forefront of the G8 political leaders’ agendas.

With a long career in the music industry and with considerable charitable works to his credit, he was recognised in 2005 with the Order of the British Empire (OBE). His charity and musical achievements have also gained him further honours including honorary doctorates from the University of Abertay Dundee, Edinburgh University, University of Paisley and Glasgow Caledonian University.

Ure is still active as a trustee of Band Aid, is an ambassador for Save the Children and has also worked on a number of Prince’s Trust concerts. He openly admits to being a recovering alcoholic, has been twice married and has released his autobiography “If I Was.”

With such a fascinating life, Ure is able to relay to audiences what it is like to be involved in organising global events with a view to changing world opinions and raising money for worthy causes, especially poverty. As befits a singer and songwriter, he is able to relay his thoughts and experiences through inspiring storytelling mixed with emotion and energy.

He talks of what Live 8 means to improving the World, how to reinvent oneself, self motivation and achieving the impossible. With his vast musical network he can also give a unique insight into the entertainment business especially the Band Aid/Live Aid concerts. No one can doubt that Ure has made a tremendous difference to the world in the past 30 years through his personal commitment and energy. His inspirational story is captivating and entertaining.

Sometimes it can be a bit difficult to live in a small space.  Many have the desire to live in a large luxurious space and feel badly about living in a small space.  Despite this, you can be happy living in a small space as long as you keep a few things in mind.

First of all, keep the space clean and clutter free.  It’s hard to deal with stacks of unorganized things or trash when living in a small area.  Once clean and organized though you can easily keep your living space in great condition as it will be easy to take care of.

Organize all your items.  If you aren’t organized, you will have problems finding things and won’t have nice open areas in your home, which can make your living space seem and feel even smaller than it actually is.  Be sure that you get everything organized to maximize your space so that you can better enjoy what space that you do have available.

Get lots of lighting in your living space.  The more light you have as well as lighter colors, the bigger the area will feel.  Many times once you get used to all the lighting in the area, you will forget how small the place you live in actually is because it will feel open.

Open up the doors and windows when you can.  This will help you feel like you have much more space as you will have a view.  This makes the room that you are in feel quite a bit more open and inviting.

Be sure that you have fun things that you can do at a home in your limited space.  If you are active and busy at home, you won’t even think about the lack of room that you have.

Get functional furniture that can be used for more than one purpose.  This will help you combine purposes with just one piece of furniture which will save quite a bit of space.

———-
If you live in a small space, there are some things you can do to make the space feel bigger.  Remember these few tips that might help you out.

Lemons to Lemonade

When life serves us lemons let us be sure to make lemonade!  Imagine the sour taste of lemons but when sugar is added it makes a gentle sweet summer drink.  How many lemons have been served your way and what have you done with those lemons?  The choice is yours – those beautiful lemons that get thrown our way sometimes out of the blue – not expecting lemons – these are the situations that blow us away.  A pink slip, a loss of a loved one, a divorce – when these things happen do we fall in the dark abyss and rely on others to get us out or do we pick ourselves by the boot straps and make something good – something positive out of the darkness?  I believe that goodness can come out of every situation – but sometimes we are so marred by the negative – by the why is this happening to us that we loose sight and get completely clouded and in our clouds we don’t get to experience even the simple joys of everyday life.  There’s always a bigger picture even in the midst of the chaos in our life.  The bigger picture is the lemonade.  The rainbow across the horizon.  We have to train ourselves, train our minds to stop and look at the bigger picture.  There could be a reason for you to loose that job – it’s possible a better one awaits you with benefits and more money.  There can be a reason for that separation from a loved one – maybe it’s a time for self evaluation and self growth.  Do we choose to expand our thought boxes and old agreements we’ve made with ourselves in order to think in a positive light and make lemonade out of lemons.

Remember, may the possibilities of today excite us!

What do you understand in the heart — “Today is the first day of the rest of your life?” Is if your lifestyle of sensual enjoyment or spirituality. Freedom of thought is your conscience, your real life and the power of the mind and always refreshing. When you live with thoughts that today is the first day of the rest of your life, you’re free of many thoughts of past and future.

What you understand in heart of “Today is the first day of the rest of your life?”, so is your style of life of sensual enjoyment or spirituality.  Freedom of thought is your consciousness, your real life and the power of the mind and always refreshing. When you live with thoughts that today is the first day of the rest of your life, you’re free of many thoughts of attachment and hostility of many things with people of selfishness.

What is the meaning of “Today is the first day of the rest of your life?” People of different lifestyle interpreted differently in their state of mind.

Charles Dederich, a drug addict, Synanon Founder said “Today is the first day of the rest of your life.” He told us that we should not worry about what happened yesterday or what may happen tomorrow. Drink hard to forget the past and the future and feel his thoughts “Today is the first day of the rest of your life.” He wants to drink in the means of sensual pleasure available today.

Some people say that today we begin our first day of the rest of life could nevertheless again. And we can do every day by learning errors. Every day, will not be perfect, but we can determine to make a day of adventure and success, one day to live and enjoy.

A friend said: “Today is the first day of the rest of my life” is the quote of motivation and inspiration and it is good to send to their relatives. An abused woman said: “Today is the first day of the rest of my life.” One day before my husband wanted a divorce and torturing me. After thoughts of verbal and psychological violence, he accepted me “. Today is the first day of the rest of my life.”

An old man said: “Today is the first day of the rest of my life” is my mantra repeated for motivation and inspiration to live the balanced life.

A Bible scholar says that even Jesus in Matthew 7:11 tells us to pray every day for things we need, when he said: “Give us today our daily bread.” Then, in verse 34 he tells us in his Sermon on the Mount, so do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. “So, to simply live a day at a time is something that Jesus taught as well. So let’s me comfort knowing that God takes care of our physical and spiritual needs of today, and if he blessed us with another day, he will take care of those needs as well. Just something to think about!

“Today is the first day of the rest of your life.” – A word repeated by several centuries since. . It is also quoted in Vedas, Hindu Classical spiritual literature in Sanskrit. The Art of Living Sri Sri Ravi Shankar of India has the organization of work in 151 countries. He preached also to live as in the lives of children given “Today is the first day of the rest of my life.” To achieve this, the Art of Living offers programs eliminate stress, which include breathing techniques, meditation and yoga. These programs have helped millions worldwide to overcome stress, depression and violent tendencies.

Life; pain, agony and success

Well….everybody undergoes through stresses, difficulties, pain. Some fight it off while others lose it by just complaining about it. These tensions in life are so many that we tend to get afraid, fear grips and overtakes us. As to those who have the will and courage to face it, triumph. Most of the times this is not the case as an individual is able to battle through some distresses but unable to conquer all; that’s fair enough as we are humans and not super powered. It is always alright to go forward in steps; take things slowly and never lose heart even though one is unable to settle his pain. One must learn to curb failures, live with it and fight it off. Success is a wonderful feeling but what is the point if we don’t meet failure.

Success throughout, is a dream of every individual who wants to remain happy all his life but what if he never meets failure? Imagine his state of mind if he were to encounter it in some point of his life? That would cause him pain and agony. But it is always to be remembered that one who has success throughout, has definitely undergone through ups and downs in life. It is only the way he perceives it, which makes a whole lot of difference. He understands that there is an impediment to his progress but he is not downsized by it. He tries to figure out how to overcome such an obstacle to pave his way through. He does not react to it but acts towards it.

Although, it is a natural tendency for one to react, a successful person reacts for a transient moment while transforming his entire reactions into positive actions; implements it and achieves what he wants, not success though but overcoming failure which in turn gives him success. Successful persons don’t thrive for success; it comes to them as they overcome obstacles in their life. Life is all about accepting success and failures; to fight off failures. Life is a gift that everyone gets; it’s all about how we open our everyday package!!!

THE YOUTHFUL AGE

THE YOUTHFUL AGE

The youthful age is a crucial stage in a man’s life. This is that period that decides how an individual’s future would be- I call it “THE DIGGING DEEP STAGE”- where you determine how high you want to go in life. This is where the real individual is formed.

Call any Youth and ask him what He thinks about His future and you’d be amazed at what you hear; great dreams and aspirations. Some are fond of saying they are the leaders of the future, yet many of them wake up each day, live their lives carelessly forgetting that each second that ticks ushers them into the future. The future is not many years ahead, the future comes in seconds.

Every young person is most likely going to have a dream of success, but what is done with the dream is what matters; you either cream your dreams as a youth or you destroy it.

As a young person, there are challenges; peer pressure, sex, a strong desire to see your dreams materialize in a haste, a Crave for fame and wealth, a desire to explore the unknown etc. The proper understanding and handling of the above mention factors is a secret of a great future.

I believe the youthful age is a period in life where people should be trained to handle these things, but also note that the youthful age is also a period where the youth wants to do virtually everything on His own without interference thereby making it difficult for Him to yield to training. This is like a dilemma, but you see, man is a free moral agent and therefore has control over his choices.

The aim of this article is to enlighten youths all over the world about the stage of life they are in and also guide them into making right choices.

Success in life is not all about acquisition of wealth (this does not mean you should be poor), but impacting the world around you with the investment of your personality. You’ve got to have something to be able to give it. You can make the right investment in yourself by studying the right materials, embracing information in line with your dream and also a little out-side of it, get to know your unique abilities and develop them. Be disciplined- pastor Chris Oyakhilome once said “If you are disciplined enough in the direction of your dream, you’d achieve it.” You’ll need courage, focus and patience. Yes! You may make mistakes, but don’t bow out because of error- this is where courage actually comes in. Learn to take responsibilities for your actions. Again i quote Pastor Chris “Someone may be responsible for where you are today, but you are responsible for where you’ll be tomorrow.”

Develop good character; be grateful for things done for you. Don’t be a critic because critics are losers and only the lesser criticizes the greater. If you don’t like something, instead of complaining, change it. Dare to dream, and dream big. What is it you want to do that is good with God and for humanity, Go for it. Do it now you are young, take advantage of the energy as a youth and channel it in the right direction and success for you will be inevitable. The future belongs to those who prepare for it.

DO IT – NOT JUST DO IT!

Michael Jordan says “Just Do It” well – I’m going to say “DO IT” – I took out the just and I’m getting to the point.  So my friends, DO IT!  I’m going to quote a great sports announcer – Dick Vitale (Dicky V) – “if you want something you got to go out and make it happen.”  I say make things happen – we often stay in status quo because of fear, because we don’t want to take a risk so we stay in a world of discontent.  Day in and day out, we get stuck in this rut.  Why – I ask why continue to live in a rut.  Take the risk, take a chance and do something totally different.  We dream about it, we talk about it but do we put it into action?  It’s time to turn our dreams to reality and put a fantasy to rest.  We want to find a job that pays us more money, we want to get out of a relationship that is dysfunctional, we want to lose weight; instead we dream and talk about it and live in the “ifs.”  I say it’s time to DO IT!  Take the leap of faith; take the risk and really DO IT!  I’m not just saying this without experience either. I took the DO IT plunge 13 years ago when as a single mother with 2 kids and working for a very dysfunctional chiropractor, I said “Enough” and I DID IT!  I took a full commission job with no savings and living pay check to pay check for the sake of being happy.  I took the leap of faith, did not have a paycheck for 6 months but I believed and I knew in my heart of hearts that this is exactly what I was to do to gain my financial freedom and be independent and not work for anyone again.  Guess what, it worked.  After 13 years, I’m still independent and my career has soared to new heights.  I took it upon myself 13 years ago to be OPEN to new possibilities.  Like the Secret says – I was open to receive – I asked, I believed and the results were I received an opportunity to be independent.  If ” I” can do it, why not you?  Try it, it really works!  Remember what I quoted by Dicky V: “if you want something, you’ve got to go out and make it happen.”  It starts with YOU and ONLY YOU!  If you don’t want to start with something BIG like a job, try this on something small in your life.  Take the leap and take the DO IT plunge!  Make it happen – it’s empowering to say the least.  I have one more quote by John Updike: Dreams come true; without that possibility, nature would not incite us to have them.  Remember, may the possibilities of today excite us ALL!

Definition of Insanity

I once heard that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.  I then ask how insane am I?  How many of us get caught in a rut in a pattern and we can’t understand and ask ourselves why things don’t ever change.  We become like those hamsters on the wheel of life.  We do more, we run more but we can never get off the wheel to change our patterns.  To get off the wheel of insanity would mean to change, to reflect on oneself and figure out “why” we are in this insanity mode and who does it serve?  In relationships, in work, in everyday living – we enter into these relationships and the pattern is, everything is great for 6 weeks, 3 months and then we feel as if things are slipping – the pattern returns, we feel as if we are not being treated as we should.  We complain about it, we don’t like the way it feels but yet we continue the dance of insanity.  At work same thing, a co-worker treats us unfairly – we feel treated unjustly but we don’t say anything to correct this behavior and live in our TRUTH, but we expect them not to treat us like that again.  What are the chances of the pattern of insanity to continue?  I would say the chances are great.  You ask how do we stop the pattern?  How do we get off the hamster wheel?  By speaking our TRUTH, by stating that the patterns do not serve us anymore and that we wish to stop the insanity; the madness.  We can state these words in a kind gentle manner so that we are understood and taken seriously. We must first recognize and reflect on our patterns; this is the hardest thing to do since it requires reflection of self.  Once we recognize the pattern, the abuse, then we can take ourselves off the wheel of insanity and once again live in peace.  Peace is what I wish for everyone of you!

Remember, may the possibilities of today excite us all!

I have three friends: Mac, John and Steve. Mac realized he could write excellently well while in the University years and was employed as freelancer by a print Media and money streamed; Mac was envied by others, who wished they could realize they had potentials and use it to earn a living. There are many youths who are confused and are yet to discover their great gifts.

According to Thomas Elva Edison, ‘few of us know what we are capable of doing; we have never pushed ourselves hard enough to find out.’ The journey of self-discovery is the first stepping stones to greatness and happiness in life. In this piece, one is sure to discover oneself and unlock one’s potentials.

The first step towards self-discovery is self-knowledge. How many of us can simply and sincerely answer the question: WHO AM I? Not many of us know who they are. WE are not our names, our professions.

We may say that one is one’s mind, body and soul, one’s abilities, and talents, qualities, virtues, defects, character, ambition, effort, past, present, future. We are beings ever becoming, meaning that one is always in the processes of self-discovery. Hence, for us to be great, we have to constantly be in the process of self-knowledge and discovery.

To discover ourselves, we have to know what we want to become. In answering this question, we have to answer sincerely: What am I doing? What cause moves me to action? What is my purpose? How does where I am affect what I aspire to be? Life is a gift. It must be lived to the fullest and must not be wasted.

You must be able to tell yourself: I want to grow in wisdom, reach full stature of my personality, develop my abilities and talents to the fullest; I want to be honest to myself and sincere in dealing with people. However, you must understand that what happens to me seldom depends on me.

What I do depends on what I am. What others do to me is not in my control. How I respond to what they do to me depends on who I am. It is simple: You must be tolerant, but do not allow people to discourage you- always look for those who have interest in what you do.

‘The real art of living’, says Martin Vanbee, ‘is beginning where you are.’ To grow to full stature, I must get in touch with my real, inner self. I should know what I am made of and what is within me. Then, I can cultivate the best in me and bring it to full flowing and fruitfulness.

Everyone has a piece of good news: that you don’t know great you can be, what you can accomplish, how powerful your potential is. Listen to genuine promptings of your heart and follow it with uttermost sincerity.
